Why Is My Baby Crying?

This is a bit of a minefield of course but the important thing is to run through a mini checklist of the main reasons your little one might be crying.

Crying is a way of releasing emotions that are bottled up inside of us. It can be caused by sadness, anger, frustration or any other emotion that is too much to handle. Crying is a natural response to negative feelings and it helps us to release them in a healthy way.

The most common reasons for crying are:

  • Hunger
  • A dirty or wet nappy
  • Tiredness
  • Wanting a cuddle
  • Wind
  • Being too hot or too cold
  • Boredom or Overstimulation

This covers a lot but little ones at the start pretty much just eat, sleep and want cuddles and talking too. It's important to realise that crying is not avoidable as a natural reaction but if you are able to anticipate it then it will help both of you get through it.
